On Sunday, November 3, 2024, Union Home Minister Amit Shah unveiled the Bharatiya Janata Party’s manifesto, known as Sankalp Patra, for the upcoming Jharkhand Assembly elections in Ranchi. During the launch, he announced that if the party is voted into power, it will implement the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in Jharkhand, but noted that tribal communities would be excluded from its scope.
“We are committed to introducing the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in Jharkhand, and I want to reassure you that it will not impact the tribal communities in any way,” Mr. Shah stated.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, and BJP State President Babulal Marandi were in attendance at the event.
During the launch, Mr. Shah highlighted 25 key points from the BJP’s manifesto, marking 25 years since Jharkhand’s formation. He criticized the Hemant Soren administration, claiming that tribals are unsafe under his leadership. Additionally, he voiced concerns about the safety of women in the state and pointed to a declining tribal population in Santhal Pargana, attributing it to Bangladeshi infiltration.
