On Tuesday, an intense encounter broke out between terrorists and security forces in the forested region of Bandipora district, Jammu and Kashmir. Acting on credible intelligence regarding militant activity in the northern part of the Valley, security forces launched a cordon-and-search operation in the area.
As the forces advanced, the terrorists opened fire, triggering a gunfight. Security personnel immediately retaliated, leading to a fierce exchange of fire. Officials have confirmed that the operation is ongoing, though the full details of the outcome are yet to be disclosed.
In a separate operation, Jammu and Kashmir police, working in coordination with the Army’s 22 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) and the CRPF’s 92 Battalion, successfully apprehended a suspected terrorist associate. The arrested individual, identified as Ashiq Hussain Wani from Tujar Shareef in Sopore, was found in possession of a pistol, a magazine, and seven live rounds of ammunition.
Following his arrest, an FIR (No. 200/2024) was filed at Handwara Police Station, and investigations are currently underway to determine his involvement in any terrorist activities. The coordinated efforts of the security forces continue to ensure safety and maintain peace in the region.
