Donald Trump announced on Saturday night that he will not be inviting two major figures from his first administration, Nikki Haley and Mike Pompeo, to join his team when he returns to the White House in 2025.
Trump shared the news on Truth Social, explaining that while he appreciated their past work, neither will be a part of his second-term administration.
“I will not be inviting former Ambassador Nikki Haley, or former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, to join the Trump Administration, which is currently in formation,” Trump wrote. “I very much enjoyed and appreciated working with them previously, and would like to thank them for their service to our Country. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”
Haley, who served as U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations under Trump from 2017 to 2018, and Pompeo, who was Secretary of State from 2018 to 2021, were both key members of Trump’s first term. However, their relationships with him have become more complicated over time.
Haley, 52, ran against Trump for the GOP nomination in 2024. While she supported him in the general election, her early criticism of Trump during her campaign likely played a role in his decision to leave her out of his new administration.
Pompeo, 60, also served Trump well in foreign policy, but some of Trump’s supporters felt Pompeo didn’t always show the loyalty they expected. This could be another reason why Trump is leaving him off the list for 2025.
The announcement came after Trump won the 2024 election, defeating Vice President Kamala Harris. Trump is now set to become the second U.S. president in history to serve two non-consecutive terms, after Grover Cleveland.
As Trump prepares for his second term, it’s unclear who will fill key positions in his administration. For now, it’s clear that Nikki Haley and Mike Pompeo won’t be part of that team.
Trump ended his post with his famous slogan: “MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!” showing that, despite everything, his message hasn’t changed.
