Perth, Pakistan defeated Australia by 8 wickets in the third and final ODI at Perth Stadium on Sunday, clinching the series 2-1. Chasing a target of just 141 runs, Pakistan reached the target in 26.5 overs, losing only two wickets in the process. This victory marks a historic achievement, as it is the first time in 22 years that Pakistan has won an ODI series in Australia. The win was especially significant for Mohammad Rizwan, who was leading Pakistan for the first time as full-time captain. Rizwan’s leadership helped Pakistan secure the series, making him only the second Pakistan captain to win an ODI series in Australia, after Waqar Younis, who achieved the same feat in 2002.

Rizwan’s victory makes him part of an exclusive group of Asian captains who have won a bilateral ODI series in Australia. Other Asian captains who have done this include Sri Lanka’s Kumar Sangakkara (2010) and India’s Virat Kohli (2019).

Pakistan’s win in the third ODI came after they bounced back in the second match with a dominant 9-wicket victory on November 8 at Adelaide Oval. Pakistan restricted Australia to just 163 runs in 35 overs, thanks to a brilliant 5-wicket performance from Haris Rauf. Pakistan then comfortably chased down the target of 164 in 26.3 overs, losing just one wicket. Australia won the series opener in Melbourne on November 5 by 2 wickets, successfully chasing down a target of 204 runs with just 8 wickets down.

Haris Rauf was the standout player of the series, especially for his impressive 5-wicket haul in the second ODI. His great performances with the ball earned him the Player of the Series award.

What’s Next: T20I Series

After the ODI series, Pakistan and Australia will face each other in a three-match T20I series starting on November 14 at the Gabba in Brisbane. The next two T20Is will be held on November 16 at Sydney Cricket Ground and November 18 at Bellerive Oval in Hobart.
